Sub equipment refers to the individual components of a larger piece of equipment. By adding components as separate equipment, they can have their own fields and maintenance and calibration schedules. For example, a parent lighting system may contain UV bulbs sub equipment that need to be managed and maintained separately.
Typically, sub equipment is created with parent directly from the parent equipment’s details page, linking them automatically. However, there may be cases where you need to link existing equipment retroactively. To learn more, refer to Equipment.
Retroactively Associating Parent Equipment
Uncountable admins can retroactively assign sub equipment to parent equipment on the Form Admin page by following these steps:
Step 1: Add the “Parent Equipment” field to the Equipment definition
In the Definitions tab of Form Admin, search for the “Equipment” definition.
Note: Only users who belong to the Admin user group will have access to the Form Admin page. All other users should reach out to their dedicated Uncountable representative to make this change.

On the “Equipment” definition:
- Select the Core Group fields.
- On the right side of the page, click the Fields tab.
- In the Fields tab, add the existing “Parent Equipment” field.
- Click “Add Field”.

Step 2: Assign Parent Equipment
Navigate to the details page of the equipment you want to assign as sub equipment. A new “Parent Equipment” field will appear in the equipment fields section. Use the dropdown menu to select the appropriate equipment.

At this point, the link has been established and the Parent Equipment field can be removed from the definition, if desired.
Adding a Parent Equipment Column to the Equipment Listing
You can display parent-sub equipment relationships directly on the equipment listing page by adding a Parent Equipment column. Follow these steps:
- On the Equipment page, select List → Set Columns.
- In the Select Columns modal, add the Equipment → Parent Equipment column.

Once added, the Parent Equipment column will display the associated parent for any sub-equipment. Note that this column is not editable, meaning that users cannot change equipment directly from the listing.
