Creating New Ingredients

Creating a new ingredient in Uncountable can either be done from the Recipes page or from the Edit Inputs page.

When creating your new ingredient in Uncountable you should name the ingredient and assign it a category and fill in any additional relevant ingredient attributes. Ingredient attributes could include properties like specific gravity or PSD, information like “supplier”, or even files like a TDS or SDS. You can select from the available ingredient attributes by clicking on the “Add Attribute” menu where you can also create a new attribute as well.

Once an ingredient is created, you can access the Ingredient Details to edit/add additional information.

Uncountable has a few “special” ingredient attributes described below

  • GHS Hazard Symbols: if you add hazard symbols, the symbols will appear in the edit recipe view if the ingredients are used in the recipe
  • CAS Number: If you add a CAS Number for an ingredient, Uncountable automatically connects with the PubChem database for the chemical structure and other attributes which will be displayed in the top right corner of the ingredient details page (as shown in the image below).

Note that any attribute, category, subcategory or metadata from this page can be used when searching and filtering your experiments as well as in your analysis and visualizations.

Several additional features of the Ingredient page include Ingredient Lots, Chemically Similar Ingredients, and Ingredient Composition.

  • Ingredient Lots: Allow you to further track Lots of material used in your recipes (Article: Ingredient Lots).
  • Chemical Similar Ingredients: Allow you to create a backend connection between ingredients that are functionally equivalent but may come from different suppliers. Similar ingredients will be prompted for each other during searching, filtering, and visualizing.
  • Ingredient Composition: Enable you to define the specific chemical composition of an ingredient.

To delete an ingredient you can click on the cog and click on delete ingredient. This will remove it from the project library. This function will not work if the ingredient is used in your existing recipes. In that case, you can alternatively archive the ingredient which will remove it from dropdown and filter lists rather than completely delete it.
