It is sometimes necessary to restrict which outputs or output groups can be added to a workflow. For example, when creating a multi-layer panel treated as an individual test sample on a parent coating formula. In these cases, all liquid testing—such as pH, viscosity, and settling—must be performed on the parent recipe, where these results will be stored. To support this structure, experiment workflows can be configured in a way which prevent liquid testing outputs or output groups from being added to the test sample, where the panel testing results are stored instead (and vice versa)
How to Limit Workflow Outputs/Output Groups
- Navigate to the Edit Workflow page for your panel workflow. Click Inputs/Outputs > Workflows, and select your workflow from the dropdown list.
- Click “Edit Workflow”.
- Configure output restrictions. At the bottom of the Edit Workflow side panel are two configuration options:
- Output Select Override (A): Enables users to select/create a configuration that determines which outputs are available on the Enter Measurements page for experiments with this workflow.
- Output Groups Select Override (B): Enables users to select/create a configuration that determines which output groups are available on the Enter Measurements page for experiments with this workflow.
- To limit available outputs: Select/create a configuration from the Outputs Select Override dropdown menu. In the example below, we will create a new configuration.
- Once you’ve selected/created a new configuration, click “Edit”.
- Add filters to the Outputs Select Override listing configuration.
From the Configure Listing modal, click “Filters” and add desired filters. To restrict individual outputs, use the following configuration: Output + Identity + is not + (outputs to restrict). To limit experiments to only a few select outputs, use the following configuration: Output + Identity + includes + (outputs to include).
In the example below, we are creating a listing configuration to limit experiments using the New Panel Workflow from adding liquid testing outputs (pH, Brookfield Viscosity, and Solid Content).
- To limit available output groups: Select/create a configuration from the Output Groups Select Override dropdown menu and click “Edit”.
- Add filters to the Output Group Select Override listing configuration.
From the Configure Listing modal, click “Filters” and add desired filters. To restrict individual output groups, use the following configuration: Output Group + Identity + is not + (output groups to restrict). To limit experiments to only a few select outputs, use the following configuration: Output Group + Identity + includes + (output groups to include).
In the example below, we are creating a listing configuration to limit experiments using the Viscosity output group. For more information on creating output groups, reference the Creating Output Groups article.
Note: If no output groups appear in the modal, navigate to List > Set Columns, and add an Output Group Identity column.
- Once configurations have been added, all experiments using the workflow will have outputs/output groups available based on the Output/Output Group Select Override configurations.
