For paints and coatings companies, specs tied to theoretical calculations—like density or solids content—are essential for maintaining product consistency and meeting manufacturing standards. When a formula changes, static specs require manual updates to ensure alignment. This can create a disconnect, increasing the risk using of outdated goals.
With relative specs, Uncountable optimizes this process. Now, when a formula changes, relative specs automatically update to match the new calculated values. This eliminates the need for manual spec adjustments.
Relative Spec Example
Consider an example scenario in which a formula includes a density calculation. Instead of setting a static range, users can define the spec relative to a theoretical base value.
- If the theoretical density value is 1.37, you can set a relative range of 0.2 to +0.2.
- The spec will then dynamically adjust, displaying the range as [1.17, 1.57] on the Enter Measurements page.
Setting Up a Relative Spec
First, navigate to the Spec Editor for the spec you want to configure.
- From the Enter Measurements page, this can be done by right-clicking on the “Assigned Spec” column and select Edit.
- Alternatively, access the Spec listing (by selecting Design → Specifications from the navigation bar) and select the spec from the listing table.
From the Spec Editor, right-click the property (Density) and choose Configure Relative Property from the menu.
Define the Relative property:
- Set the Property Calculation (A).
- Choose a Relative Type (B).
- In the Goal table, manually define the range (C).
Once configured, navigate to the Enter Measurements page. Within the Assigned Specs column, the relative spec will appear as a dynamic range that automatically updates in response to changes in the underlying formula.
